Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) is holding his next town hall discussion Thursday, with the virtual talk set to focus on the new federal budget bill that was narrowly passed by the house last week.

The bill was passed by a vote of 218 to 214 on July 3, which broke down primarily along party lines with DeSaulnier and his fellow house Democrats all voting against it, along with two Republicans.
Critiques of the move have been nearly as expansive as the bill itself, with widespread concerns over its cuts to federal healthcare and food benefits being at the front and center of a majority of the critiques, as well as its increase to the national deficit.
DeSaulnier continued to speak out against the bill after its passage, saying in a July 3 statement that it “harms tens of millions of Americans and raises their cost of living in order to make the ultrarich even richer.”
“Republicans, more loyal to Donald Trump and their ultrawealthy donors than to their constituents, made clear what their priorities are,” DeSaulnier said on July 3. “They’ve spent nearly six months focusing on finding ways to make the most vulnerable among us pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. In the process, they have betrayed working families. The results: Americans will forego medical treatments, struggle to put food on the table, go into debt, and die.”
Thursday’s town hall will be one week after the bill’s passage. The session is set for 4 p.m. via Zoom. Registration is available here.
