The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to hold a study session on a proposed affordable housing project that would replace existing office space at Bishop Ranch.

Eden Housing’s proposed Camino Ramon Apartments project would consist of 200 units – all designated as affordable for low income households – at 2453 Camino Ramon between Norris Canyon Road and Executive Parkway, across from the recently constructed 404-unit City Village project.

The project would see the demolition of the existing office space to make way for one five-story 80-unit building plus underground parking designated for seniors, and a six-story, 120-unit building over two levels of above ground parking that would not be age restricted.

With one access point already in place off of Camino Ramon, a secondary access point would be added via the existing parking lot on the northern portion of the site. The project would also include amenities such as a park, community rooms, play areas, and a fitness center.

“The project planning is organized around the concept of connecting residents through shared open space and co-located community programs and amenities,” developers wrote in the project description. “The ‘heart’ of the project is a centrally located park with both buildings active use lobbies and building amenities opening to landscape designed for community gathering, recreation and relaxation.”

The project would consist of 36 studio units, 23 one-bedroom units, 31 two-bedroom units, and 30 three-bedroom units in the non-age-restricted building, with 27 studio units, 52 one-bedroom units, and one two bedroom unit in the seniors-only building.

Eden Housing first filed a preliminary development application for the project in September, following up with Development Plan, Architectural Review, Tree Removal, and Environmental Review applications in January.

The upcoming study session is set to be informational only at this stage, with potential decisions by the Planning Commission and City Council still to come.

The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 4). The agenda is available here.
