The city of San Ramon has announced a full road closure on a portion of Bollinger Canyon Road scheduled to last more than a week next month as construction continues on the Iron Horse Trail overcrossing.
Detours will be in place during the closure between Camino Ramon and Market Place from Sept. 7-15, with City Hall and the Marketplace Shopping Center continuing to be open and accessible via a detour on westbound Bollinger Canyon Road, according to an announcement from city officials Tuesday.

“This roadway closure is required to conduct a critical phase of construction where the precast concrete deck panels will be set in the Overcrossing framework,” city officials said in the announcement. “Once this work is complete, the public will see the full Overcrossing structure. However, the Overcrossing will not be fully completed and open until Summer 2025.”
The upcoming closure is one of two scheduled to accommodate construction on the long anticipated bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing, with the second scheduled from Oct. 1-7.
“During the two road closure periods, construction activities will be taking place that require special safety measures, since workers will be using large cranes to lift portions of the Overcrossing in place,” city officials said Tuesday. “It will not be safe for vehicles to drive under the over-roadway work.”
Drivers will be required to follow a detour arranged for the construction projects, with pedestrians and bicyclists continuing to have access to an existing sidewalk detour, which will be buffered by a pedestrian scaffolding amid construction.
While the overcrossing itself is not anticipated to be completed until next year, the upcoming construction activity marks a milestone in the process, which has been underway since March 2023.
