The city of San Ramon has announced updated dates for a construction project and road closures that had been set to kick off over the weekend, with the start date being pushed out to Monday instead.
The stretch of Bollinger Canyon Road between Camino Ramon and Market Place is now set to be closed to traffic Sept. 9-15. While the busy stretch of road will be closed to all through traffic, City Hall and the Marketplace Shopping Center will continue to be open to the public and accessible via westbound Bollinger Canyon Road.

Bicyclists will continue to have access to an existing detour route, and a pedestrian scaffolding is set to be in place for the duration of the upcoming construction work.
The delayed start and shortened time frame for the closure, which has been reduced from an anticipated nine days to seven days as of the update, come following efforts from the city and contractors to lessen the impacts on residents, according to an announcement from the city on Thursday.
The closure is scheduled to accommodate what city officials call a “critical phase” of construction on an Iron Horse Regional Trail overcrossing on Bollinger Canyon Road. While the overcrossing is not set to open until next year, the main structure is set to be in place following the latest phase of construction and associated road closures, with a second closure scheduled for next month.
“During the two road closure periods, construction activities will be taking place that require special safety measures, since workers will be using large cranes to lift portions of the Overcrossing in place,” city officials said in Thursday’s announcement. “It will not be safe for vehicles to drive under the over-roadway work.”
The impacted portion of Bollinger Canyon Road is set to be closed starting at 5 a.m. Monday through Sept. 15. A second full closure on the same stretch of road is scheduled for Oct. 1 to Oct. 7.
“This roadway closure is required to conduct a critical phase of construction where the precast concrete deck panels will be set in the Overcrossing framework,” city officials said Thursday. “Once this work is complete, the public will see the full Overcrossing structure.”
A second overcrossing for the Iron Horse Trail over Crow Canyon Road is also in the works, currently in the design phase with construction anticipated to kick off in 2026 or 2027, depending on funding.
