All lanes of Interstate-580 near Isabel Avenue in Livermore were reopened late Friday afternoon following successful negotiations with an individual on the overpass who was experiencing a mental health crisis, according to authorities.
“The individual was brought to safety with the help of Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department’s ladder truck,” Livermore Police Department officials said. “Traffic will remain impacted until it naturally returns to normal levels.”
LPD noted success in negotiations at around 3:30 p.m., about two and a half hours after they arrived Friday (May 8) to the Isabel Avenue overpass above the eastbound lanes of I-580 for an individual who climbed over the fence.
“Officers are actively negotiating with the individual, and personnel from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department are assisting at the scene,” LPD officials told Livermore Vine just before 3 p.m. Friday.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
By 4:05 p.m., the California Highway Patrol announced the full reopening of the freeway near Isabel Avenue.
