The three other Leslie’s locations in the Tri-Valley were spared from the 76 closures announced nationwide Sept. 30 in tandem with voluntary petitions filed by the company in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas that same day.

“With a stronger balance sheet and greater financial flexibility, Leslie’s can reinvest across the business to strengthen operating execution and deliver an even better experience for our customers, both in-store and online,” CEO Jason McDonell said in a press release that day. “Leslie’s is here to stay, and I am deeply grateful to our employees, customers, and partners for their continued support as we work to position Leslie’s for a strong future.”

McDonell doubled down on his attempt to reassure patrons and other stakeholders in a statement later posted on the new “Our Future” page on the Leslie’s website.

“We remain focused and fully committed to serving you by delivering the products and services you rely on from us to keep your pool safe and enjoyable,” McDonell said.

“For more than 60 years, Leslie’s has been the name that swimming pool and spa owners turn to for the knowledge, products, and solutions necessary to confidently maintain and safely enjoy their pools and spas,” he added. “That is not changing. Leslie’s is here to stay, and we will be stronger for you on the other side of our restructuring.”

The storefront at 3211 Crow Canyon Place, Suite L, sat vacant late Thursday morning, with empty shelving and moving equipment the only things left visible inside through the window. A paper sign affixed to the glass door alerted prospective shoppers in San Ramon to the closure.

“This store is closed but your Leslie’s experts are still close by,” the sign read, also including a QR code encouraging patrons to scan and “find your new go-to Leslie’s store”.

That list includes stores on San Ramon Valley Boulevard in Danville, Santa Rita Road in Pleasanton and East Stanley Boulevard in Livermore, which remain open.

The company placed eight Bay Area stores, including one in Walnut Creek, on the closure list as part of its restructuring. Locations across 19 states were on the chopping block, according to the nationwide catalog posted by various media outlets including TheStreet.

“While we continue to operate our business without interruption, we wanted to keep you informed that we have reached an agreement with a group of our existing lenders that will significantly reduce our outstanding debt and provide new capital, enabling us to further invest in our industry-leading products and solutions that you rely on to maintain and enjoy your pools and spas,” McDonell said.

“Importantly, chapter 11 is a court-supervised process that allows companies to operate in the ordinary course of business while strengthening their financial foundation,” he added about the bankruptcy proceedings.
