Embarcadero Media Foundation has welcomed Emily Lavin, an experienced journalist and East Bay native, as the new division editor for its three Tri-Valley publications.

Lavin, who started on the job in Pleasanton on Sept. 28, leads the day-to-day for the editorial team of reporters, interns and freelancers and manages the journalism content on PleasantonWeekly.com, LivermoreVine.com and DanvilleSanRamon.com.
“I’m excited to get to know the Tri-Valley community and learn more about the issues that matter most to residents,” Lavin said. “My goal is to help the East Bay team produce journalism that informs, sparks conversations and facilitates change. I look forward to meeting readers, listening to their perspectives and helping to tell their stories.”
Lavin worked the past 10 years as the assistant editor and education reporter at The Ark, a weekly newspaper covering the Southern Marin communities of Belvedere, Tiburon and Strawberry. Before that, she covered education and business at The Union newspaper in Grass Valley in Nevada County.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis, and a master’s degree from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York.Â
“Over the years, I’ve especially enjoyed the opportunity to tell stories that give readers a better understanding of their communities and the people who live in them,” Lavin said.
“In my free time,” she added, “I can usually be found enjoying the outdoors, cheering on the San Francisco Giants and the Golden State Warriors or spending time with my friends, family and pets.”
Lavin succeeds Cierra Bailey, who stepped down during the summer after 6-1/2 years. As division editor, Lavin is also part of the division’s management team alongside publisher Gina Channell Wilcox and Jeremy Walsh, associate publisher and editorial director.
