A young girl was in stable but critical condition this week after sustaining severe injuries in an overnight fire that erupted at her home in San Ramon, with an investigation into the cause ongoing as of Friday evening.
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District received a call about the structure fire on Ernwood Street near Country Club Elementary School at approximately 12:03 a.m. Thursday morning.
Firefighters ultimately contained the fire within the room it originated, according to deputy chief Jonas Aguiar.
Aguiar told DanvilleSanRamon on Friday that dark smoke was visible from the second story of the house when firefighters responded to the scene, with some of the crew working to put out the blaze while others worked to stabilize the 9-year-old victim.
The victim was transported to San Ramon Regional Medical Center for additional stabilization before, Aguiar said, being airlifted for further care. KTVU, which broke the story, reported that she was in critical but stable condition in the burn unit at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center as of Thursday evening. No further updates into her condition were available as of Friday evening.
Aguiar said that although the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, it appeared at this stage to be accidental.
