The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District has received an initial Fire Risk Reduction Community designation from the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, recognizing its efforts to reduce wildfire risk and improve community preparedness, fire officials announced July 20.
The district is among more than 50 fire agencies, counties and cities statewide to earn the designation, which acknowledges best practices in fire risk planning and mitigation.
District officials said the recognition can help reduce insurance costs for property owners because insurers are required to consider the designation when setting rates. It also gives the district priority consideration for grants that support wildfire mitigation projects and community preparedness programs.
The designation applies to all properties within the district’s jurisdiction and complements the Firewise USA Community program, another community-level wildfire mitigation measure considered by insurance companies.
Fire officials said the recognition reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to reducing wildfire risk and strengthening community resilience across Contra Costa County.
