The Wolves chalked up another East Bay Athletic League win at last Thursday’s dual meet, beating local rival Monte Vista on the San Ramon Valley home track.

In girl’s varsity, San Ramon’s distance runners fueled their 77, 59 win over the Mustangs. Led by Alexis Nordine, who took home two first-place wins in the 1,600-meter sprint (5:26.73) and the 800-meter sprint (2:30.01), the Wolves dominated the track events with the exception of the 400-meter dash.

San Ramon senior Kelly Fogarty finished first in the 100-meter dash (12.42) and the 300-meter hurdles (36.01). Teammate Sarah Beyers took first in the 3,200-meter sprint (12:28.31), and Laura Charbonneau earned first place in the 100-meter hurdles (16.4).

In boys varsity, San Ramon Valley’s sprinters scooped up wins in the 110 meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 800-meter sprint, 300-meter hurtles and the long jump. Monte Vista grabbed wins in the field events shot put, discus throw, triple jump and high jump. The relays were the clincher the Wolves needed in the 85.5, 50.5 win. The SRV boys took the 400-meter relay win in 42.30 seconds and the 1,600-meter relay win in 3:27.26 seconds.

The two schools have been close all season. One only has to look back as far as the April 21 Phillips/McCain Invitational to see just how close the competition has been. In that meet, first place in four events was decided by just thousandths of a second, or a couple of inches. Three of those four wins went to the Mustangs including the boys varsity 4×800 relay. The Mustang all-junior relay team, Dustin Harris, Danny Bartz, Donald Morgenson and Vinnie Butera, set a new meet record that day, edging out San Ramon Valley in 8 minutes, 10 seconds (a 2:02.5 average).
