A Danville police officer shot and wounded a man at the intersection of Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon on Thursday after he allegedly pulled a knife and began advancing toward the officer.
According to the Danville Police Department, officers received multiple calls around 11:45 a.m. from motorists that someone was throwing rocks onto Interstate 680 from the Sycamore Valley Road overpass.
A Danville officer arrived on the scene and attempted to approach the person in question, who allegedly responded by pulling out and opening a folding knife.
Police allege that the officer told the man to drop the knife "several times," but the man refused and began to advance toward the officer, who fired his weapon and struck the man once.
The subject, who was wounded, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said. His condition was not known, as of Thursday night.
