A Danville police officer shot and wounded a man at the intersection of Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon on Thursday after he allegedly pulled a knife and began advancing toward the officer.
According to the Danville Police Department, officers received multiple calls around 11:45 a.m. from motorists that someone was throwing rocks onto Interstate 680 from the Sycamore Valley Road overpass.
A Danville officer arrived on the scene and attempted to approach the person in question, who allegedly responded by pulling out and opening a folding knife.
Police allege that the officer told the man to drop the knife “several times,” but the man refused and began to advance toward the officer, who fired his weapon and struck the man once.
The subject, who was wounded, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said. His condition was not known, as of Thursday night.

Looks like the police officer did the right thing. Danville police officers, under the leadership of chief Allen Shields, are very well trained and do an excellent job of protecting the community. I have had occasion to interact with the Danville force and, as a longtime Danville resident, I have complete confidence in their judgment and training.
I fully support our brave men and woman of the Danville PD, who risk their lives every single day at work to protect complete strangers from criminals like this guy who was throwing rocks at cars from the overpass, which could have killed or badly injured innocent drivers. I am so glad to live in a town in which most of the citizens support our law enforcement officers, and that is why Danville was ranked one of the safest towns in all of CA. When the public supports the police, and cooperates with them, together we make a safe environment for all law abiding citizens. I am sure the notorious ambulance chasing lawyer from Oakland will claim the police shot this guy “because he was a person of color”, which is utterly ridiculous, and ignores the fact that the guy pulled a knife on the officer who was completely justified, legally and morally, in shooting him once, in self defense. Thank god there are people, in this environment, who will still put on a badge and risk their lives to protect others, and please know Danville PD that most of your residents fully support and thank you.
