A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim of the fatal crash had stopped their Nissan van and was facing westbound on Alderwood Road at Treat Boulevard while standing behind the vehicle, according to the CHP. The driver of a Honda Accord traveling westbound on Treat Boulevard then lost control of the vehicle, striking both the Nissan van and its single occupant outside the vehicle at approximately 5:42 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the Nissan van was pronounced dead at the scene, with the driver of the Honda Accord sustaining severe injuries and being transported to a local hospital, according to the CHP.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division has not yet released the identity of the victim publicly, as officials were still trying to locate next of kin as of Tuesday afternoon.

CHP is continuing to investigate the crash, with officials asking for witnesses or those with information about the case to call the Martinez office at 925-646-4980.
