The city of San Ramon’s top HR official is operating under a new title as of this week, with Megan O’Donoghue named as its new director of human resources after three years as manager of the department.
O’Donoghue came to San Ramon in 2022 after serving as HR manager for the Alameda County Fire Department the year prior, where she’d begun as an HR officer in 2017. City officials pointed to her decade of experience in the field and accomplishments since joining the city in the announcement of her promotion Monday.
“Since joining the City, Megan has brought fresh energy and strategic focus to our Human Resources team,” said City Manager Steven Spedowfski in a press release from the city. ”Her efforts are strengthening our workforce and reinforcing San Ramon’s reputation as a top-tier public employer in the region.”
Those accomplishments include managing the city’s recruitment, employment relations, and employee and retiree benefit programs, as well as leading its HR team through the development and execution of an HR strategy. O’Donoghue led negotiations on two agreements between the San Ramon Police Officers Association and the local SEIU chapter.
In addition, O’Donoghue has led the charge in the transition of the city’s HR department, which previously operated as a division under administrative services.
“My favorite thing about working for the City of San Ramon is its dedicated and collaborative staff, and I’m honored to continue serving them through this new role,” O’Donoghue said in the city’s press release.
