Members of the San Ramon Valley Chorale are inviting audiences to an immersive performance this weekend aimed at capturing the spirit of world travel while staying close to home in the valley.

“Postcards to Home” is described by organizers with the chorale as not just a typical concert, but an experience capturing global sights and sounds, with music from locations throughout the world including Europe, Russia, Haiti, Venezuela and Hawaii.

“Our musical program is about connection – across cultures and to each other,” said Bruce Koliha, Director and Co-Founder of the Chorale in a press release April 9. “It’s a reminder that wherever we go, the idea of home is something we carry in our hearts, and sometimes find in unexpected harmonies.”

Koliha founded the chorale in 2016 alongside his former student, Hayden Padgett, going on to build a base of talented alumni from Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley high schools as well as singers from religious organizations and community groups, according to the chorale’s website. In the present day, it features performers from throughout the Tri-Valley, many of whom are professional or semi-professional.

The upcoming performance is also set to feature the work of local composer Martin Rokeach, a professor emeritus of St. Mary’s College in Moraga, who is premiering the piece “Remembering We’re Alive” this weekend as one of the many “postcards” making up the show, and prepared specifically for the chorale.

In addition, the show is set to feature more familiar works from widely known composers such as Gilbert and Sullivan, Norman Dello Joio, and Gabriel Fauré.

“Postcards From Home” runs April 26 and 27, with showtimes at 4 p.m. at San Ramon Valley Methodist Church in Alamo. Tickets and more information are available at srvchorale.com.
