The 49-unit Lanes townhome project slated for the former home of Danville Bowl is in the pre-construction phase, with building permit applications set to be filed soon, while the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is preparing to go out to bid for a remodel of Fire Station 31 on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.
Those are among several private, public and infrastructure projects in the works in and around Danville, according to an update development services director Diane Friedmann will present to the Danville Town Council on Tuesday. The projects range from routine maintenance to long-anticipated renovations to one of the town’s central gathering areas.
The former Danville Bowl site at 200 Boone Court was demolished earlier this year, and grading is now underway to advance construction of the townhomes.
Meanwhile, ahead of the remodel, the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is preparing to temporarily relocate its operations from Station 31, located at 800 San Ramon Valley Blvd, to the former town offices at 500 La Gonda Way.
Construction is ongoing for the studio and pavilion projects at the Town Green. The bandstand was removed in August. Storm drain and sewer permitting processes are currently underway. The pavilion project replacing the grandstand is set to be completed by spring.
Bids opened last week for work on the Smart Signals Program being administered in Danville and 11 other cities and towns by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. It is set to include new traffic-signal detection systems, with 27 cameras total at seven intersections on Danville Boulevard, San Ramon Valley Boulevard and Diablo Road.
“The project will also include new emergency vehicle pre-emption technology at all intersections and cloud-based transit signal priority improvements at seven intersections,” Friedmann wrote in a staff report.
The transportation authority is set to award a construction contract next month.
The program includes a $1 million federal grant from Rep. Mark Desaulnier’s office for an additional 79 cameras along 26 different intersections along Sycamore Valley and Camino Tassajara roads. Work has been completed on that portion of the project, as well as on new traffic signal cabinets at the intersections of Camino Tassajara and Crow Canyon, and Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon. Staff are working to implement new cloud-based software from Econolite for the town’s traffic management program.
Another 17 traffic detection cameras will be installed at 10 different intersections under the town’s $590,4000 Traffic Signal Modernization and Safety Improvements project, which is set to be under construction next spring.
Routine maintenance and planned upgrades to storm drains and other infrastructure are also a priority for the department ahead of an anticipated strong El Nino season. Work was completed earlier this month on drainage improvement and repairs along Diablo Road Trail, with paving on the trail itself set for next month.
“Other outstanding major items of work include the placement of handrails at each of the large retaining wall systems and placement of the steel-backed timber guardrail along the segment of the project adjacent to the creek,” Friedmann wrote.
The project is set to be finished in December, along with repairs to a 30-inch storm drain pipe on Hill Meadow Place near San Ramon Valley Boulevard.
The Danville Town Council is set to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 19). The agenda is available here.
In other business, the council is set to hear a quarterly investment report and cast a final vote on updates to outdoor dining and parklet regulations.
