Music in the Park
The town of Danville is hosting the final installment of its Music in the Park series this weekend, set to feature tunes from cover band The Unauthorized Rolling Stones.
The show is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 3) on the Town Green at 400 Front St. in downtown Danville. Front Street between the Village Theatre municipal parking lot and the library adjacent to the Town Green is set to be closed to drivers from 4:30-10 p.m.
Youth Summer Showcase
The San Ramon Arts Foundation is hosting a Youth Summer Showcase Concert on Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Dougherty Station Performing Arts Center at 17011 Bollinger Canyon Road.
The event is set to feature young performers from the San Ramon School of Rock, I Can Do That! performing arts in Danville, the San Ramon Academy of Music and the Ushanjali School of Dance.
“This enriching event is a testament to our commitment to nurturing growth through the arts,” organizers said in the event description
The event is free to attend, but space is limited and a $10 donation is encouraged. More information and registration is available here.
Gun violence town hall
Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) is hosting a virtual town hall event on gun violence prevention at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14.
“Gun violence is a uniquely American problem,” DeSaulnier said in an announcement Thursday. “Every day over 300 people are shot in the United States and firearms are now the leading cause of death for American children and teenagers.”
DeSaulnier is set to be joined by guest speakers including representatives from the UC Davis Violence Prevention Program and Moms Demand Action, as well as Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena), chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

SRVUSD alumna recognized
Former two-term student trustee for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and DVHS alumna Anya Ayyappan was recently recognized for her service during the past school year on the state’s Board of Education.
“I applaud Anya for her commitment to service at both the local and state levels,” SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in an announcement from the district on Tuesday. “Although I did not have the pleasure of sitting on the dais during her tenure as a student member, I am well aware of the significant contributions she made. Her dedication to our schools, students and community is reflective of her achievements within SRVUSD’s Learner Profile as a critical thinker, intentional collaborator and effective communicator.”
In addition to her time on the SRVUSD and state boards of education, and as a peer mentor and student news editor at DVHS, Ayyappan has served on the San Ramon Teen Council and as a youth liaison for the city’s Parks and Community Services Commission and Library Advisory Committee. She is set to attend Stanford University as an economics major starting this fall.
Denim and Diamonds nominations
The Danville Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the upcoming Denim and Diamonds awards ceremony and celebration at the Blackhawk Country Club in September.
Nominations for 11 different categories are open through August 27, with voting set for August 8 through Sept. 6 ahead of the main event on Sept. 18.
