The Pleasanton Police Department reminded residents about the importance of child safety seats following a car crash last week which left one vehicle barely standing upright on two wheels, all while there was a child in the back.
PPD Lt. Nicholas Albert told the Weekly the collision did not result in any significant injuries and that no arrests were made because it was a “Non-criminal collision.”
Officers responded to the crash on July 8 at around 9:10 a.m.
The collision occurred on Carver Court near the intersection of Alvord Way, according to Albert. It involved one vehicle occupied by a driver and 3-year-old child and another parked vehicle that was unoccupied
“The cause of the collision was related to a distraction of the driver,” Albert said.
According to the PPD’s social media post regarding the incident, officers arrived to find the driver had safely exited their vehicle and their toddler daughter, “remained securely buckled in their child safety seat while the vehicle rested precariously on two wheels.”
“Thanks for the quick response from the Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department, the vehicle was safely stabilized and the child was carefully rescued, according to PPD’s social media post.
“While no one ever wants to experience a crash, this is a powerful reminder that properly using a child safety seat can make a life-saving difference,” the department said in its social media post. “Taking a few extra moments to ensure your child’s seat is correctly installed and fitted is one of the most important things you can do before every trip.”
