The San Ramon Police Department is asking the city to approve a $4.1 million contract with Axon Enterprise aimed at consolidating the department’s technology and equipment services.

Under the proposed 10-year agreement, Axon would supply the department with Taser devices, body-worn cameras, in-car camera systems, digital-evidence management, drone technology and other associated services.

The City Council is set to review the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday and vote on whether to authorize the mayor to execute the agreement.

The equipment and services are estimated to cost about $3.9 million, including taxes. The proposed agreement includes a 5% contingency of about $195,400, for a total contract cost of about $4.1 million, according to a report prepared for the meeting by police Capt. John Cranford. The money would come from the city’s General Fund.

The report notes that Axon is the only vendor offering the Taser option identified by the police department. It also notes the increased efficiency and continuity consolidating services under one vendor would provide.

Under the new agreement, certain existing contracts with Axon would end Dec. 1. The proposed new agreement is targeted to begin on that date.
