San Ramon Valley Unified School District staff will review the results of last year’s Smarter Balanced standardized testing at Tuesday’s board meeting.

The scores will be discussed as part of a larger update on the district’s Deep Learning and Innovation Strategic Direction. The plan aims to develop a “coherent system” to support instruction, effective instructional models and assessment practices across the district’s schools.

The computer-based Smarter Balanced exam is typically administered statewide in May to students in grades 3-8 and 11. It’s designed to align with what students are learning in the classroom under the Common Core standards, testing students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. The California Department of Education is set to release the scores from the 2026 test to the public on Oct. 15.

Also at Tuesdays meeting, the board is scheduled to vote to certify its independent-study courses; recertification is required annually.

Ahead of the 6 p.m. public session, the board will meet in closed session at 4 p.m. to discuss the appointment of an assistant principal at Dougherty Valley High School and to confer with labor negotiators.

Attend the meeting in person on Tuesday (Oct. 13) in the district board room at 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville, or watch the livestream on the district’s YouTube channel. The full agenda is here.
