The city of San Ramon is among the latest local jurisdictions to be considering agreements with state and county transportation officials that would allow them to move forward with a planned ramp metering project across the Interstate 680 corridor.
The city council is poised for a vote this week on an MOU with Caltrans and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority aimed at monitoring and managing traffic congestion and improving incident detection.
Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon marks the southernmost point for the planned project, with the Martinez-Benicia Bridge marking the northernmost point.
The Martinez City Council passed a resolution approving the MOU with the county and state last month, with Danville entering into the agreement in May. Pleasant Hill, Concord,and Walnut Creek are the other local jurisdictions that are party to the MOU.
“CCTA has employed an iterative drafting process for the MOU, with multiple rounds of review involving all partner agencies,” public works director Brian Bornstein and transportation manager Chris Weeks wrote in a staff report for the upcoming meeting.
“City staff actively participated in this process and provided substantive written feedback. CCTA’s iterative approach has resulted in a document that reflects the collective input of all partner jurisdictions,” they continued. “Staff is satisfied that the current version of the MOU adequately addresses the City of San Ramon’s concerns.”
The MOU – which is not legally binding – establishes the project’s goals, policies, governance structure, and the responsibilities for each local agency.
The San Ramon City Council is set to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 11). The agenda is available here.

* The council is set to continue discussions on a resolution to confirm the statement of expenses for unpaid fees and fines and consider a resolution to assess fees for violations identified by the building and safety division earlier in the year at 653 S. Blackbrush Lane.
* As part of its consent calendar, the council is poised to consider passing a resolution formalizing a $5.73 million contract with Goodfellow Bros LLC for construction on the city’s pavement management project.
* A resolution to change the name of the San Ramon Police Officers’ Association to the Police Association of San Ramon is also on the consent calendar.
